Edmonton Landmark Photography Purchased.
In mid-February, I was approached by Bonnie Doon’s mall Administration to see if some of my Edmonton area photos might work for purchase, to be installed in their Bonnie Doon Professional Building. The Professional Building is a multi-floor building that houses health and business services. The building's common areas were recently renovated and the mall’s management was looking for wall artwork tied to the city to finish off the project. I put together some pieces that I had framed and looked at the space with them.
The three installation areas were all at high traffic entrance points. One was at the mall’s main floor area by the elevator on the east side. The second was upstairs on the second floor elevator entry/exit point, and the third was on the buildings west side’s stairwell. A unique finishing requirement for the art was that the prints needed extra protection from possible damage and have a frame structure that was sturdy enough to allow for rugged theft prevention mounting.
After some discussions, the clients picked imagery connected to Edmonton’s iconic river valley. Two images were of the Edmonton Streetcar crossing on the High Level Bridge during sunsets and the third was a morning sunrise that featured the Edmonton Riverboat and our newest LRT river crossing, the Tawatinâ Bridge. All three photos tied together nicely and make a strong visual impact on visitors. I think they also reinforce the mall’s community focus and it’s commitment to the local arts scene. Bonnie Doon Mall is fast becoming known for its fall and spring Art Walks that feature a variety of Edmonton artists.
